ACCEPTED NAMES: Leah, Tseecka, or Tsee AGE: 25 LOCATION: Alberta, Canada TIMEZONE: MDT (UTC -6 hours) PREFERRED PRONOUNS: She/Her/Hers I work fulltime at a job an hour’s commute from home, which means I leave home at 7:00 am and get home at 6:00 pm. I spend pretty much all that time on Chatzy, Tumblr, and now this forum--meaning that I update quickly and am available pretty much all hours, but sometimes will suddenly drop off with no warning when work things that need immediate attention come up. I tend to vanish most evenings and over the weekends, though. It also means that I tend to jump on thread replies pretty quickly--please don't worry that I expect rapid fire responses from you in turn! I completely understand that not everyone has the same freedom of time that I do, and I very rarely get impatient waiting for it to be my turn again--I'm not the sort to come around nagging you, so please don't be concerned about that! However, like anyone sometimes a lose muse. Please don't be scared to poke me if you feel like I'm taking too long to respond. I've been RPing for about 10 years now. The majority of my fandom RP experience was on LiveJournal RP comms, but most of my RPing over the years was actually done in original worlds with original characters on boards very much like this one. (Ask nice and I might even link you to one of the old forums ;P). I'm really enthusiastic about forum RP, even though I know that it kind of gives away my age; I feel like it is one of the best ways to bring a large community together and create a really cohesive group, and I'm looking forward to fostering that kind of a community here. I am always open and available for any questions, especially if you haven't RPed on a forum like this before or are just having trouble figuring out where to go/what to do/how to do it. As a mod, you are also welcome to message me at any time for modly things around the boards, like enforcing rules, moving/archiving/closing threads, mediating arguments, etc. I am also always available to talk OOC, to offer pointers and critique on writing, and to chat about pretty much anything! AU CHARACTER BIOS: ALISTAIR
Canon Verse Notes: This is my standard default canon for Alistair in Dragon Age. Details such as who his Warden was and what happened to him/her can be changed if necessary to suit plots; unless otherwise discussed, however, this is his canon.
* * * * *
Alistair believes his mother to have been a serving maid who died giving birth to him. He was raised by Arl Eamon Guerrin of Redcliffe. The arl's wife, Arlessa Isolde, suspected the reason her husband took an interest in the welfare of a servant's child was that Alistair was Eamon's son. She insisted the boy be sent away to the Chantry, and so he was sent to a monastery at age ten. Isolde's suspicions were unfounded, however. Alistair was not Eamon's son, but King Maric's. Eamon sheltered the boy on the advice of Teyrn Loghain Mac Tir to protect the honor of Queen Rowan, Maric's wife. His illegitimate status notwithstanding, Alistair's parentage makes him a possible heir to the throne, after the demise of his half-brother King Cailan.
Alistair was trained to become a templar for many years by the Chantry, this being how he learned most of his skills. He was found to be ill-suited to a life of religious devotion, however. When Duncan, a friend to his father, found him, Alistair had not yet taken his vows and was desperately unhappy. During a tourney held to honor the Grey Wardens, Duncan decided to recruit him. Alistair was not the most skilled fighter, and was bested by acclaimed templars such as Ser Eryhn, a woman who wielded a sword and shield with unequaled grace, Ser Talrew, leader of many victories against the Chasind, and Ser Kalvin, one of the finest blades in Ferelden. Despite this, Duncan admired Alistair's character above the other templars present. Sensing that he had a good and loyal heart, Duncan used the Right of Conscription to force the Chantry to hand Alistair over to the Grey Wardens before he took the sacramental vows. The Grand Cleric did not wish to let him go, but could not supersede the Right of Conscription.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Alistair's story follows the canon of Dragon Age: Origins; the new Warden recruit he met at Ostagar, and subsequently journeyed with, was named Lyna Mahariel, a Dalish warrior. Alistair acted as mentor, friend, and eventually lover to her, and the two formed a deep bond, loving one another deeply and fiercely. However, when the truth about Alistair's parentage came to light, Lyna realized that their situation could only end in heartbreak. She insisted that Alistair marry Anora and take his seat on the Ferelden throne, unwilling to keep the country from what she firmly and fervently believed was a good and noble ruler, and knowing she would never be accepted as his Queen.
Lyna performed the Warden's Sacrifice in the battle with the Arch Demon, saving the lives of all the folk of Ferelden as well as her once-lover's. Alistair took a small ring from her body before she was buried, and wears it on a chain around his neck next to his vial of Darkspawn blood. He also adopted her mabari, Bean.
His new wife had hopes of making a proper man out of her new husband, but soon realized that Alistair's heart belonged to two things only: his country, and Lyna's memory. They quickly gave up all semblance of attempts at a loving marriage. Bean's presence remains a hotly contested point of debate between them, and Alistair spends as much of his time away from Denerim as he can, preferring to leave Anora on the throne while he rules from the field. There are rumours that Anora has taken a number of paramours to fill the void left by her husband. They do make semi-regular attempts to conceive, but it is a loveless affair, and so far fruitless due to Alistair's tainted blood.
Despite this, Alistair does genuinely respect Anora. He keeps his vows of fidelity, and won't hear her name sullied in his presence.
Pirate! AU
Captain Alistair Theirin, King of the Pirates, sails the waters of the seas on his ship, the Lady Lyna--named for his once-first mate, now lost love, Lyna Mahariel.
He has an artifical leg; his real leg was lost to a strange, unexplainable sickness. He isn't cured, though the sickness seems to be spreading more slowly now, and is always on the lookout for news of anyone who might know of its origins--or its cure.

AU CHARACTER BIOS: ANDERS
MUSICIAN VERSE
Anders was a problematic child—short attention span, disrespectful to his parents and his teachers, rude and on occasion violent towards other children. At age ten, on the recommendation of school counselors, his parents had him shipped off to Calenhad Circle Boarding School, a boarding school in Ferelden, where he didn’t do any better—but was more sharply disciplined for his transgressions. He became angry and sullen, and acted out often.
He returned home the first summer when classes let out, but his parents had become used to the peace and quiet afforded them without his presence, and his mother was pregnant with another child. Though he wasn’t aware of it, they made arrangements with the school to have him homed with a foster family for subsequent summers, essentially abandoning him. As might have been expected, this was utterly unhelpful in improving his attitude or outlook.
In his third year at the school, a graduate student with the Denerim University applied for authorization to testrun a development program at Calenhad Circle. She was accepted as a student teacher for a period of one year. Wynne Foye believed strongly in the use of the fine arts to help channel energy in restless or troubled students, and introduced art, music, and theatre programs to the Calenhad Circle. As many of the students at the Circle were there because of problems at their own schools, or at home, she had no shortage of recommended students.
Anders was selected to enter into the art program, against his will. He was a terror in the class and took great delight in disrupting Wynne’s lessons, interfering with the work of other students, sabotaging their works, and generally being a brat. However, Wynne saw something in him—in her words, “a spirit yearning to find it’s voice”—and suggested that he be moved to the music program instead.
The first musical instrument he ever touched was a simple soprano recorder. He hated the shrill tones, but quickly fell in love with his new ability to produce noise. After extracting a promise from him to work hard and stay dedicated to music, as well as to behave and maintain a certain level of performance in his other classes. Wynne procured him an alto recorder, instead, which he much preferred for its mellower, sweeter sound. Producing music, mastering the complicated sequences of fingering, feeling his anger and resentment leave his body with every puff of breath, Anders finally felt as though he’d found his outlet. It took a while for his behaviour outside of Wynne’s classroom to similarly calm, but he became passionate and devoted to his practice, and to his teacher, who rapidly became something of a surrogate mother or older sister to the troubled boy.
The success of Wynne’s program meant that CCBS approached her about continuing on with it and making it a permanent fixture in their curriculum. Wynne declined at first, wanting to finish out her next year and complete her Graduate degree, but returned the year following as a permanent member of staff. While the program was on hold, she continued to visit CCBS, helping Anders and a few of her other most dedicated students continue to practice and develop their skills.
Though he was never a model student, exactly, his energies became more devoted to practical jokes and goofing around rather than destructive activities. He began to make friends in the Arts program, when he had been a loner up until then, and his grades improved well enough that he was able to apply to the Music Program at Denerim University, under Wynne’s guidance.
Anders was accepted into the Music program at DU as a Performance major with a cross-faculty minor in Medieval History, focusing on music in Thedas from the first through fifth Ages. He remained passionate about the recorder, its music and history, and focused most of his Medieval studies on musical history, in which the recorder and similar instruments played a large role; however, he switched to the clarinet for his performance track, using the one Wynne had gifted him upon his graduation from CCBS.
His somewhat unorthodox program structure meant that he was required to work very closely with a member of the Music Department faculty as an advisor, to ensure he would be able to convocate on schedule. His Performance instructor, Karl Thekla, quickly filled that role, and the two of them shared a friendly relationship. Karl was a classically trained clarinetist, though he quickly became well-versed in various aspects of medieval music due to Anders’ enthusiasm for his subject. Thekla was able to use his own connections amongst the faculty of various departments to ensure that Anders was able to stay on track. The two became good friends, and Anders often monopolized Karl’s office hours, lounged in his desk during his own lunch hour, and used the comfy corner couch to study quietly during his breaks while Karl graded papers and worked on compositions.
Their relationship turned from an academic friendship into a personal romance one evening after Ander’s mid-term recital in his third year. Riding the high of a flawless Saint-Saens finale, when Karl came to congratulate him on his performance, Anders responded by kissing him enthusiastically. Karl protested, citing the University’s fraternization policies, but Anders persisted, and they continued their relationship in secret.
Though few of Anders’ friends from CCBS had continued on to Denerim University, he had made a number of other friends in both the Arts and History faculties. One of these, a Dance major from Tevinter, invited Anders with a few of their mutual friends out to a live show at the Gnawed Noble—a favourite hangout of many of the Arts students at DU, loved for its eclectic nature and delicious house brew. The group was called B·Rogue, and called themselves “experimental jazz”.
Having never been exposed to jazz of any sort, experimental or otherwise, Anders was reluctant but allowed himself to be convinced. In the smoky bar, he listened as the lead singer, Leliana, crooned out sultry melodies in her melodic Orlesian voice. However, his interest was firmly locked on one of her backup musicians. As he watched Varric Tethras, he felt the same way he had felt upon first hearing and seeing the recorder back at CCBS, and fell in love with the instrument and the musical style, both.
FFXII VERSE
Anders was raised in a viera commune with other males of his kind. He has no memory of his mother, and no meaningful connection to or relationship with his father; as with most viera, he was raised by the community. He showed a particular sensitivity to Mist as a child, which made him somewhat more volatile and rambunctious—inasmuch as a viera can be, at any rate. The Salve-makers of his village noted that he also had an extraordinary sense of the spirit world, and that he was capable of making contact with great beings and over very great distances; they could never be sure, however, of whether that ability and his Mist sensitivity were related.
One of the Salve-Makers, who acted as a mentor to Anders for a large part of his childhood, was an elderly viera named Thekla. He filled the role in Anders’ life that his father did not. Thekla was enamoured with the world of the humes, fascinated by the stories of Wood-Warders who had encountered the creatures in the Wood. He had assembled a collection of hume artifacts, which he kept hidden from the rest of the commune. While Anders received instruction from the rest of the community in their laws, including the Green Word, Thekla encouraged him to doubt and to question everything.
Shortly after Anders passed into adulthood, Thekla vanished. The elders of their community informed them that Thekla had violated the Green Word and was to henceforth be labeled as an outcast, viera no more; he had followed his passion (what the elders derided as “obsession”) with the humes out of the Wood, and would not be permitted to remain.
Despite being raised to obey the Green Word, Anders could not help the sense of injustice he felt at this pronouncement. He began to question the viera way of life, his childhood volatility coming to the fore in his loud protests and restless debate of the Green Word and what it stood for. Seen as a disruption to the community, he was segregated from the rest of the population in a sort of solitary confinement for a full year.
When he emerged, he was far more quiet and reserved than he had been before; but far from ending his questioning of the viera beliefs, he simply began to keep his questions to himself, proceeding further and further along the road of disillusionment. He adopted Thekla’s curiosity and fascination with the world of the humes, studying the artifacts and books that Thekla had collected in secret.
At the same time as he was secretly studying the world of humes, Anders began to openly study the ways and rites of becoming a Salve-Maker, to serve his village, in honour of his mentor and at the urgings of the voices he heard from the spirit world. While he disagrees with the viera law, and finds it unfair that viera must forswear any contact with the outside world, he also fears losing his connections to the Wood and to the spirit world, which are so much a part of him and his identity. Despite his general unrest, and his curiousity about the world beyond the Wood, he feels it safer and more secure to remain. Nearly ready to begin his quest to find the Vorpal Bunny and accept the mantle of his new role in the commune, perhaps all he needs is to find just a bit of bravery, enough to allow him to step beyond the confines of the Wood…
